Orion 201: Network Management and Monitoring
4 days

Modules: NPM, NCM, NTA, NTM, IPAM, UDT, VNQM (IP SLA only), Custom SQL Alerts and Reports. Orion 101 not required, but this course will not cover installation and basic overview of NPM and the Orion Platform. Students would highly benefit from a basic understanding of the Transact-SQL and PowerShell languages, but not required.

  • Discovery of Nodes in the Enterprise 
  • Out-of-the-Box Monitoring vs. Custom Pollers 
  • NetPath Configuration 
  • Network Insight for F5 devices overview 

Day 2: Network Configuration Manager; NetFlow Traffic Analyzer 

  • Installation and initial Configuration of NCM 
  • Installation and initial Configuration of NTA 

Day 3: IP Address Manager; User Device Tracker; VoIP and Network Quality Manager; Dashboards and Views 

  • Installation and initial Configuration of IPAM 
  • Installation and initial Configuration of UDT 
  • Installation and initial Configuration of VNQM 
  • Creating Custom Resources in the SolarWinds Orion website 
  • Common NOC View designs for the enterprise 
  • Installation and initial Configuration of NTM 

Day 4: Custom SQL Alerts and Reports

  • Introduction to the Orion SQL Database schema 
  • Custom SQL Reporting using both the Web Report Engine and the Orion Report Writer application

Modules: SAM, DPA, WPM, VMAN, SRM, Custom SQL Alerts and Reports. Orion 101 not required, but this course will not cover installation and basic overview of SAM and the Orion Platform. Students would highly benefit from a basic understanding of the Transact-SQL and PowerShell languages, but not required.

Day 3: Virtualization Manager; Storage Resource Monitor; AppStack View; Application Maps 

  • Installation and Initial Configuration of VMAN 
  • Integration of VMAN with Orion 
  • Installation and Configuration of SRM Alerting and Reporting with SRM data 
  • Using Network Atlas to create hybrid application maps for the enterprise 
  • SolarWinds AppStack view overview
